Kelly Oysters is a family business based in Kilcolgan, Co Galway, now run by brothers Micheal and Diarmuid Kelly. Together we skillfully manage to combine modern technology with the traditional methods of harvesting by hand to ensure top quality produce.
Kelly Oysters have been proudly growing and selling high quality oysters and shellfish from our farm for over 60 years. We supply many of the finest restaurants and fish wholesalers throughout Ireland, Europe and around the World.
Nestled between the Burren Mountains to the South and Connemara to the North, our farm is located at Killeenaran, a small beautiful inlet of Galway Bay on the west coast of Ireland, where the clean, clear waters provide ideal conditions for growing some of the best flavoured oysters and shellfish in the world. It is the combination of the Wild Atlantic Ocean and the fresh water from the surrounding rivers that gives our shellfish it’s unique taste.
Our father Michael Kelly started the business nearly 60 years ago by selling Native Oysters from his oyster beds at Killeenaran. Michael was joined in the business by his wife Bernadette following their marriage in 1963 and they grew the business together developing a very successful export market. Originally the Native Oyster was the main product sold by the company and in the 1980’s the company expanded their products to include Gigas Oysters, Mussels and Clams.
We have now followed the tradition set by our parents and work alongside our own wives Mary and Theresa. This combined family knowledge of the industry and our dedication to our customers means that we have built a loyal customer base over the years. The next generation of the Kelly Family also help us out during the holidays and other busy times of the year.
